Plain-English summary

We collect only the information needed to get you connected and keep your services running smoothly, like your contact details, service usage (e.g., dates and duration), and technical diagnostics (e.g., IP address, device identifiers). We use this to set up services, support you, bill you, improve network performance, and meet our legal obligations.

We don’t sell your personal information. We may share it with trusted partners who help deliver your services (like local fibre companies), with credit/debt agencies (if applicable), and—only when required—authorised agencies under New Zealand law. You can access and correct your information, opt out of marketing, and contact our Data Protection Contact anytime.

1. Information we collect

  • Identity & contact: name, address, email, phone, date of birth, identity verification where needed.
  • Service & usage: plan, installation details, call/SMS/broadband metadata (time, duration, volume, type), support tickets.
  • Network & device: IP, IMEI/IMSI/MAC (as applicable), diagnostics, logs, performance, security events.
  • Financial: billing data, payments, credit checks, and collections (if used).
  • Communications: emails, surveys, and recorded calls for quality/training/dispute resolution.
  • CCTV: security footage at SC Internet-controlled premises.

Sources include you, our network, wholesale partners (e.g., LFCs), and credit reporters (where permitted).

2. How we use it

  • Connect and operate your mobile, broadband, and voice services;
  • Provision with wholesale partners (number porting, fibre installs), and support your account;
  • Identify and prevent fraud, protect network integrity and security;
  • Bill you, process payments, and manage debts if required;
  • Maintain and improve our network, sites, and apps;
  • Send service notices (outages, upgrades, pricing changes), and—unless you opt out—relevant offers;
  • Meet legal obligations, including the Privacy Act 2020 and TICSA 2013.

3. When we share it

  • Wholesale providers, LFCs, and porting authorities to deliver your services;
  • Credit reporters and debt collection (if applicable);
  • Directory services unless you opt out;
  • Authorised agencies and regulators where legally required;
  • Vendors (IT/hosting/security/analytics/marketing) acting on our instructions;
  • Others with your consent or as permitted by law.

We may share aggregated or de-identified data that does not identify you.

4. International transfers

Your data may be processed overseas (e.g., roaming, global hosting, or support). We apply comparable safeguards required by the Privacy Act 2020.

5. How we protect it

We use layered security: encryption, least-privilege access, monitoring, intrusion detection, and physical protections. No system is 100% risk-free, but we apply industry-standard controls.

6. How long we keep it

We retain information only as needed for the purposes above and legal requirements (e.g., tax/audit). Then we securely delete or de-identify it.

7. Access & correction

You may request access to, or correction of, your personal information (subject to lawful exceptions). We’ll verify identity before actioning requests.

8. Cookies & analytics

We use cookies and analytics to operate our site, remember preferences, improve performance, and defend against abuse. You can disable non-essential cookies in your browser; some features may degrade.

9. Direct marketing choices

We may send you product updates and offers. Opt out any time via the email unsubscribe link or by contacting us. Service-critical notices will still be sent.

10. Lawful requests & interception

As a New Zealand telco/ISP, we may be required under the Telecommunications (Interception Capability and Security) Act 2013 and other laws to enable lawful interception or disclose information to authorised agencies. Such disclosures are strictly controlled by law.

11. Policy updates

We may update this policy from time to time. Changes take effect when posted with an updated date above.

12. Contact & complaints

If unresolved, you can complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner.
