Overseas Roaming—simple, flexible, transparent

Pick a Roaming Pack that matches your trip. Control your spend, keep your NZ number, and use calls, texts and data in eligible destinations. Packs don’t auto-renew—you’re in control.

Buy and manage roaming in your Customer Portal. New SIMs must first connect to the NZ network before you add a roaming pack.

Important roaming information
  • New SIMs must first attach to the NZ network before you add a roaming pack.
  • Packs cover incoming/outgoing person-to-person calls & texts (landlines count as incoming).
  • One pack works across multiple eligible destinations during its validity.
  • Exceed your minute/text allowance? You’ll be charged the local casual rate unless you add another pack.
Before you fly—quick checklist
  • Update your phone software (iOS/Android).
  • Enable VoLTE (4G Calling) and confirm your device supports it. See VoLTE.
  • Turn on Wi-Fi Calling as a handy fallback. See Wi-Fi Calling.
  • Buy a roaming pack in your Customer Portal.
  • On arrival: enable Data Roaming on your device if you plan to use data.
3G shutdown & device readiness

Many countries have switched off 3G. To make voice calls overseas you’ll need a 4G/5G handset that supports VoLTE with our roaming partners. If your phone is 2G/3G-only, calling and SMS won’t work in those countries. Data may still work on 4G if your device supports it.

  • USA: 3G shut down (2024)
  • Taiwan: 3G shut down (1 July 2024)
  • Singapore: 3G shut down (1 August 2024)
  • Australia: 3G shut down (28 October 2024)

For the best experience, use a recent 4G/5G device with VoLTE roaming support and keep Wi-Fi Calling enabled where available.

FAQs

How do I buy or top up a Roaming Pack?
Log in to your Customer Portal, choose your service, and select a roaming add-on that matches your trip.
Do packs auto-renew?
No. Packs expire after their validity. Add another any time.
Will I get usage alerts?
We’ll send usage notifications where possible, but delays can occur with partner networks. For certainty, track usage in your Customer Portal.
Can I eSIM or dual-SIM while roaming?
Yes—if your device supports it. You can keep a local SIM active for data and your Scott Mobile line for calls/SMS. Check your device’s SIM manager and assign which SIM handles calls, SMS, and data.
Calls over Wi-Fi when overseas?
Wi-Fi Calling can help in low-coverage areas. It uses your plan allowances where applicable. See Wi-Fi Calling.
